We’re on the second half of our 2,000 round testing of the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact, and have our first ammunition-related malfunction. We have put 1,256 rounds of FMJ, JHP and other projectiles through the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact, with a single failure. No deviation on point-of-aim has been determined in excess of 750 rounds after fixing the rear sight.
As in previous range sessions, three different ammunition types made the trip to the range. First up was Browning’s 147-grain BPT ammunition, which gave us our first ammunition-related failure. On round 1,054, the cartridge failed to ignite. Upon inspection of the round, and in comparison to other fired cases from that same box of ammunition, it appears to be related to the primer, not the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact. Slightly more than 200 rounds were fired after this, with zero problems.
We put an additional 100 rounds of Aguila’s 115-grain FMJ fodder through the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact with zero failures, and followed up with another 52 rounds of NOVX 65-grain +P ARX ammo. No problems were experienced with either of these ammunition selections in feeding rounds, firing or ejecting spent casings.
At this point, as we start in on the second 1,000 rounds, it’s worth a mention on the accuracy of the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact. Out of a completely stock Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact, with the stock sights and trigger, accuracy is easily on par with the VTAC version full-size Gen1 M&P I currently own, which has the Apex trigger upgrade. At 7 yards, making precise hits is easily accomplished with the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact right out of the box.

NOVX 65-grain +P ARX: 52 rounds, no failures
Aguila 115-grain FMJ: 100 rounds, no failures
Browning 147-grain BXP: 100 rounds, one failure to fire on round 1,054
Total round count in the torture test stands at 1,256, with a single ammunition-related failure. The Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact has not been cleaned or lubricated, and has only had the rear sight re-zeroed as part of this testing. After 750 rounds since the rear sight was re-installed, no further sight drift has been observed.
