SIG Sauer Academy has received California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Certification for its Pistol Mounted Optics Instructor Course. The California POST Commission —which sets selection and training standards for its 600 member agencies across the State of California—awarded the certification. The organization also provides guidance to departmental firearm instructors for the development and implementation of curriculum, training and maintenance standards for its agencies

“We are honored to receive this certification from the California POST Commission, and have the ability to offer the SIG Sauer Academy Pistol Mounted Optics course through their prestigious education certification program, and expand our reach to law enforcement within the state of California,” said Steve Matulewicz, vice president of SIG Sauer Academy. “With the red-dot technology of reflexive sights becoming increasingly more popular amongst law enforcement, the unique curriculum of this course teaches proper use and sighting techniques, along with the skills to become a certified red dot trainer within a department.”

The SIG Sauer Academy also offers a variety of pistol optics courses that are available to the general public, including Pistol Red Dot Fundamentals, Red Dot Defensive Pistol,  Red Dot Domination and more. For a complete list of the facility’s course offerings, visit the SIG Sauer Academy Website.

The California law enforcement-specific course is being offered through the Los Angeles Police Department and is listed in the California POST Course Catalog , Firearms-Sighting Systems-32063. The two-day instructor course is designed to implement the use of a red-dot reflexive sight on a pistol in a police or military application. Students develop skills to operate the sight, negotiate around obstacles and shoot on the move. Throughout the two-day course students will record shooting data to compare performance with back-up iron sights versus the red dot reflexive sight.
