It's tempting to reach for the cargo shorts when summer's heat index climbs into the "OMG it's *how* hot out?" region. Every extra bit of cooling helps when temps are hovering near triple digits and the humidity gets onto the "swampy" region. For a variety of reasons, though, leaving the shorts at home and wearing pants is a good idea if possible.

Fortunately, the folks at Propper offer a Summerweight series of pants. Featuring ultralightweight construction and moisture-wicking fabric, these 94-percent nylon-ripstop pants also offer a 50 protection factor against UV rays for outdoor exposure. With zippered rear wallet pockets, reinforced front pockets (for pocketknife and/or flashlight clips) and zippered front pockets, there's room for all your gear while staying cool.

If your summer (or early fall, depending on location) plans involve any length of time outdoors, you'll appreciate these lightweight, versatile pants. There's no reason not to be comfortable and still have plenty of space for gear.

MSRP: $49.99. Available in black, khaki, navy and olive green.
