DeSantis Holster Company has a rich tradition of top-quality leather holsters dating back to 1972. Long known for their law enforcement line, DeSantis also manufacturers leather goods for civilian concealed-carry and hunting pistols.

For SHOT Show 2020, DeSantis introduced the Inside Heat TB, a full leather IWB holster for concealed carry that stole a feature from their law enforcement side not often found on civilian carry rigs: a thumb break—thus the TB in the name.

Leather holsters are both good and bad, sometimes overlapping in the same category. The good side of leather is their appearance: pure class. Nothing looks better than a great leather holster, all shined up and polished. Leather holsters have a rich tradition dating back to the wild west with the classic gunslinger.

The bad side is that leather is a malleable material that wears out over time and repeated use. This is the main reason kydex holsters were invented. To combat this tendency, DeSantis reinforces its leather holsters and molds them to the particular gun—the best of both worlds.

The thumb break—a feature not typically found on IWB holsters, leather or otherwiseadds an extra level of retention. This can be extremely useful as the holster wears and the opening widens even slightly after repeated use, especially as a primary EDC. Thanks to correct placement, the thumb break unsnaps crisply and quickly to free the gun on demand and doesn’t get in the way of the draw.

Belt retention comes from a single powder-coated steel clip.

Priced at $59.99, the all-leather Inside Heat TB costs about the same as most kydex holsters that don’t look as sharp.
