In an emergency or any survival scenario, having a compact carbine for personal defense and hunting can make all the difference, extending someone's time in the wild for a greater likelihood of rescue or escape. To this end, TNW Firearms has a collection of Aero Survival Rifles chambered in today's popular calibers, including 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 10mm, .357 SIG and .22 LR. However, particularly for taking bigger game, having a more-powerful caliber available can enhance capabilities in any survival situation, so the company developed an all-new Aero Survival Rifle in 2019 chambered for the powerful .460 Rowland.
Developed by wildcatter Johnny Rowland, the .460 Rowland takes an existing .45-caliber handgun bullet designed for use in the popular .45 ACP and loads it into a lengthened case that's still sized to allow the round to fit and feed from standard Glock .45 ACP magazines. However, the lengthened case on the cartridge enables the round to deliver .44 Mag. level ballistics from a semi-automatic action, sending a 185-grain JHP bullet at 1,575 fps and producing more than 1,000 foot-pounds of energy.
The TNW Aero Survival Rifle chambered for this magnum-level cartridge is purpose-built to handle the increased power of this round, providing consumers with a threat-stopping and game-dropping carbine that can be operated, taken down, transported and stored easily. The guns all feature AR-style controls, and the upper and lower receiver on each gun is machined from durable 6061-T6 aluminum. Barrels on each model of the Aero Survival Rifle can be removed and installed quickly and simply without tools, and the carbine is compatible with all AR-style collapsible stocks.
One of the innovative features of the TNW Aero Survival Rifle is the ability to quickly and easily change calibers using the same receiver. All that's needed is a barrel and/or a bolt change. For those worried about the availability of .460 Rowland ammunition, barrels can be swapped out in seconds, allowing the gun to feed and fire .45 ACP using the same bolt and magazine. Barrels chambered for .45 ACP features a 1:16-inch twist rate and have an overall length of 16.25 inches. The overall length of the carbine is 33 inches with the barrel installed, and each gun weighs just 5.5 pounds, unloaded. Upper and lower Picatinny rails allow the addition of optics and other accessories as desired.
The suggested retail price on the TNW Firearms Aero Survival Rifle chambered in .460 Rowland is $699.
