For fans of the 300 BLK cartridge, having a platform that takes full advantage of the round can take some serious investment. The 300 BLK is built to perform in short-barrel, suppressed rifles, but getting all the components needed to build a rifle that's easily and comfortably handled, plus going through rigorous NFA regulatory processes can be a barrier. For 2019, SIG Sauer developed a platform that's ready to suppress straight from the box: the MCX Rattler Canebrake. All that's needed is a suppressor!
“The MCX Rattler Canebrake was created for those that desire the MCX as a suppressed system and eliminates the need to purchase additional components to do so,” said Tom Taylor, chief marketing officer and executive vice president of commercial sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “The Rattler Canebrake comes with a factory installed inert training device, making it operable right out of the box while NFA paperwork and waiting periods are completed, and then is easily convertible to run suppressed.”
Each SIG Sauer MCX Rattler Canebrake is built with a gas-piston operating system and equipped with the company's SD handguard, which is large enough to wrap around an attached suppressor, protecting a shooter's hand and providing a compact, easily handled platform optimized for the 300 BLK round. To cut down on the hassle, SIG ships each MCX Rattler Canebrake with an inert training device attached to the barrel. This takes the place of an NFA-regulated suppressor and ensures that users can safely shoot their guns while waiting for NFA paperwork to clear on their next can. The training device mimics the size and weight of the company's SIGSRD762 suppressor.
Thanks to the new configuration of the MCX Rattler Canebrake, consumers can avoid the hassle of having to find a shorter barrel and wide-enough handguard to accept the suppressor of their choice. After buying the Canebrake and clearing the hurdles for suppressor ownership, owners can simply unthread the training device on the gun, install their suppressor of choice and tune the gun to run with their preferred ammunition. Other features found on the MCX Rattler Canebrake include a two-stage Matchlite Duo trigger, complete with a flat trigger blade, a Cerakote-finished upper and lower receiver, the company's Pivoting Contour Brace and a single 30-round Magpul 300BLK magazine.
Each gun features a barrel length of 5.5 inches and an overall length of 29.25 inches. Width and height measure 2.8 inches and 8 inches, respectively, and the unloaded with of the gun is 6.5 pounds.
