Enlarging its 1911 product lineup for 2018, Taurus announced the launch of its new 1911 Commander, giving consumers an affordable option for personal-defense use, thanks to its compact dimensions that make it a contender for concealed carry.

Taurus launched its 1911 lineup in 2005 with the goal of providing consumers a reliable, durable handgun based on the tried-and-true, trusted 1911 design. This offering gave owners a number of added features at a price they could afford. The new Taurus 1911 Commander continues this tradition, shipping from the factory with several desirable features typically found on guns more than twice the price.

Machined from carbon steel, the frame, slide and barrel on the 1911 Commander are all finished in a durable matte-black finish, giving the gun a sleek, low-profile appearance. Adding to this overall aesthetic are a pair of black grips, finished with a traditional, tactile checkering pattern that keeps the pistol anchored securely in the hand.

Keeping true to the traditional 1911, the Taurus 1911 Commander features a single-action-only, hammer-fired action chambered in .45 ACP. The Commander-sized gun offers personal-defense-minded individuals with an option that's easier to carry and conceal than traditional Government-sized models, thanks to the gun's shorted slide and barrel. This is combined with a full-sized grip, which ensures that shooters have a secure hold on the gun for controlled strings of fire.

Spec-wise, the 1911 Commander measures in with a barrel length of 4.25 inches and and overall length of 7.9 inches. The gun is 5.7 inches high and measures 1.3 inches in width. The overall weight of the gun is 38 ounces. One added feature on this 1911 Commander is the use of eight-round magazines in place of the traditional seven rounds usually featured in a traditional 1911, giving consumers an extra cartridge. Another added feature on the pistol are drift-adjustable Novak sights located at the front and rear.

The Taurus 1911 Commander ships with two magazines and retails at a suggested price of $609.
