Leupold & Stevens has begun constructing a new distribution center on the company’s Beaverton, OR, property. Ground was broken on Wednesday, Aug, 4.

The new, state-of-the-art facility will be located in the southwest corner of Leupold’s 27-acre campus in Beaverton, which has been the company’s home since the late 1960s. The new distribution center will replace the firm’s smaller, existing facility, which is located offsite. Upon the project’s completion, Leupold will have more than 200,000 square feet of office, manufacturing and distribution space onsite.

“We pride ourselves on the dominant performance of our products and our commitment to providing excellent service to our customers,” said Bruce Pettet, president and chief executive officer of Leupold & Stevens. “Having our new distribution center on-site at our existing corporate campus will increase efficiency and help us bring even more overall value to our customers. It’s a testament both to the growing strength of our brand and the support that our partners and core consumers have shown us.”

Leupold & Stevens has been located in northwest Oregon since the company was founded in 1907. Its first products were high-quality, handmade surveying equipment. Soon it branched out into water-level recorders and developed what was then a radical way of transmitting measurements through the phone line. In the 1940s, though, the company began making riflescopes and business boomed.

It moved out of its original Portland facility and into its current Beaverton location in 1968. All but a handful of Leupold’s more than 700 employees work there.

Leupold & Stevens, is a fifth-generation, family-owned company that designs, machines and assembles its riflescopes, mounting systems, tactical/Gold Ring spotting scopes, and performance eyewear in the United States. The product lines include rifle, handgun and spotting scopes; binoculars; rangefinders; mounting systems; and optical tools, accessories and pro gear.
