Welcome to another episode of "I Carry," Shooting Illustrated's weekly video series covering the guns and gear needed to put together an ideal everyday-carry kit. Today, we have a SIG Sauer P938 pistol in a DeSantis Gunhide Slim-Tuk holster. We also have a Galco Gunleather SB1 Dress Belt, a SnagMag Magazine Carrier, a Cold Steel Steve Austin Working Man knife and a Browning Microblast flashlight.
Gun: SIG Sauer P938 ($760)
For fans of 1911-style pocket pistols, SIG Sauer introduced its P938 back in 2011 as an improved 9mm offering over its P238 in .380. Now, there are 15 P938 models to choose from in SIG’s lineup, all with a variety of finishes and features, so consumers can choose a model closest to their personal preferences.
The P938 is equipped with a number of 1911-style controls, such as a single-action trigger, thumb safety, magazine release and slide stop all in the same spots where you’ll find them on a standard 1911. The pistol is all-metal, built with an alloy frame and a stainless-steel slide, and still only weighs 16 ounces. Magazine capacity is six rounds.
Holster: DeSantis Slim-Tuk ($39.99)
I paired the P938 with the new Slim-Tuk IWB holster from DeSantis. The Slim-Tuk is a minimalist design that’s form-fitted to the pistol from a single sheet of Kydex and is low-profile, ambidextrous and versatile. Wearers can use the holster in a strong-side, crossdraw or appendix position, and the company’s 360 C-Clip fits belts up to 1.75 inches wide and allows shirts to tuck in over the holster.
Magazine Carrier: Snag-Mag Magazine Carrier ($34.95)
When carrying a spare magazine, keeping it oriented and easily accessible while concealed can be a challenge at times. The Snag-Mag is a new innovation that provides a purpose-built carry position just inside your support-side pocket, keeping a spare magazine at-the-ready whenever it’s needed. A built-in hook catches the inside of a pocket during a draw, allowing the magazine to slip out easily.
Flashlight: Browning Microblast Light ($19.99)
A flashlight is a useful tool, but many forego carrying one because a number of options on the market are just too large for comfortable use in an EDC kit. The Browning Microblast solves that issue, measuring in at only 2.9 inches long and weighing less than an ounce with a triple-AAA battery installed. Despite its small size, the light produces 72 lumens, which is enough to provide acceptable area lighting.
Knife: Cold Steel Steve Austin Working Man ($59.99)
Retired professional wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is an avid outdoorsman, and he was in need of a daily working knife that could tackle all the jobs around his ranch. So, Austin teamed up with Cold Steel to produce the Working Man knife, built with German steel and a rugged polymer handle. The knife weighs just over 3 ounces and features a 3.5-inch blade, along with a pocket clip for tip-up carry.
Belt: Galco SB1 Dress Belt ($89.95)
The whole point of concealed carry is to keep a low profile, and the Galco SBI Dress Belt allows wearers to avoid using a tactical-looking gun belt while still having a piece of gear that anchors their carry rig. The belt features multiple layers of fiber-reinforced steerhide for strength and comes in black, brown and tan colors.
