I Carry: Glock G43 in a Keepers Concealment Errand Holster

Welcome to another episode of "I Carry," Shooting Illustrated's weekly video series covering the guns and gear needed to put together a potential everyday-carry kit. Today, we have a Glock G43 in a Keepers Concealment holster. We also have a Tulster magazine carrier, a Hyve Technologies magazine extension and a Cold Steel knife.

Glock G43 ($599)

We’ve featured the G43 a couple times before on “I Carry,” and there’s a reason for that. It’s one of the most-popular concealed-carry guns on the market today, and that’s due largely to the gun’s slim, single-stack, sub-compact design, which makes it easy to carry. The pistol measures just 6 and a quarter inches long, 4 and a quarter inches high and just slightly over an inch wide.

In fact, my weekend gun is often a Glock G43. With an open-ended belt-clip attachment on a holster, you can put it on fast and conceal it easily with just a light T-shirt, no problem. Really, my only complaint about the pistol is its rather-low magazine capacity, coming in at six rounds, compared to other single-stack subcompacts on the market, but we’ll resolve that by the end of the video.

Keepers Concealment Errand ($89.99)

In keeping with our goal for a quick-clip, ready-to-roll rig, we’ve chosen the Keepers Concealment Errand appendix-carry holster. Like I said earlier, the reason my G43 is one of my few go-to carry pistols is that I can clip it on and go within seconds. The Errand holster, thanks to its belt-clip attachment, allows users to slide it onto a belt or even onto the lip of your jeans, if needed. Gun belts are always a better choice, though, if you can incorporate one into your weekend wear.

One of the unique features of the Keepers Concealment Errand is this unique, foam wedge located on the bottom edge of the holster. If you’ve ever tried appendix carry, you’ll notice that there’s pressure on your body from the bottom edge of the holster. This can bug some people, especially when sitting down. The wedge spreads out that pressure, making it more comfortable while simultaneously pushing the grip-end of the gun closer to your body for better concealment. As an added bonus, the wedge also moves the muzzle further forward, directing the muzzle away from more-sensitive parts of the body.

Tulster Echo Magazine Carrier ($39.99)

We’re also carrying a spare magazine for the Glock G43, and it’s not just because of the limited, six-round capacity of the gun, though that is an important point. More often than not, magazines are the weak point in any firearm. What’s one of the first things you do when your gun malfunctions? Check the mag, of course. Having a back-up on-hand can make the difference, allowing you to rip out the old one and replace it with a new one. The Tulster Echo uses a similar clip to the Errand holster, allowing it to snap on over a belt or the lip of your pants for a quick exit.

Hyve Technologies +3 Magazine Extension ($31.99)

If you’re going to tote a back-up magazine, then it’s worth carrying a magazine with the highest capacity you can comfortably carry. Like I mentioned before, the Glock G43 has a somewhat-limited magazine capacity, even when compared against other single-stack nines. However, this all-aluminum baseplate combined with Hyve’s own magazine spring increases capacity to nine rounds, which is edging into the territory of even some small double-stack handguns. Of course, when doing any magazine modifications, make sure that you’ve thoroughly wrung out the new configuration to ensure it’ll work when needed.
