Magpul’s had a line of apparel for quite a while now; we featured the company’s pants in our Tactical Pants roundup and have featured its belts, pants, gloves and other assorted items in Shooting Illustrated. Recently, the company launched some new-for-2018 eyewear offerings, and we’re taking a closer look at the Terrain model in this release.

Constructed of TR90NZZ, an impact-resistant thermoplastic specifically engineered for durability. Lenses meet the standards for high-velocity ballistic protection, and come in both polarized and non-polarized variants. Three frame color options (black, gray and tortoise [shown]) and a variety of lens options (mirror and non-mirror, blue or rose lenses, etc.) allow users to choose the Terrain that best compliments the ensemble, while the low-profile temples play well with protective headgear (you are wearing a hat on the range, right?).

These are functional glasses: the lenses are slightly oversize, so when compared with traditional sunglasses they seem a bit on the large side. That’s intentional; you want protective eyewear to cover as much of your valuable face-real-estate as possible. They’re also lightweight (1 ounce, as determined by the postal scale in our Armorer’s office) and comfortable for long-term use.

Obviously, we’re big fans of safety equipment. All it takes is a piece of brass bouncing off a range divider into your glasses to drive home how important protecting your eyes is in the grand scheme of things. Eye protection that, well, doesn’t look like standard safety goggles is a bonus; the Magpul Terrain glasses are stylish enough you might even find yourself wearing them when off the range as well.

For ballistic-rated glasses, the MSRP of $149 is quite reasonable, and you’ll look good, too. Magpul’s Terrain eyewear will make sure you are—quite literally—covered on the range.
