Due to the increase in popularity of Gunsite Academy’s Seasoned Citizen pistol and carbine courses—and requests from alumni—the company is offering a new Seasoned Citizen Shotgun course next year. “While we are a fighting school, it is not realistic for us to expect a seasoned citizen to fight the same way a 25-year old will. So, we made adjustments to the Pistol and Carbine courses, taking out most of the ups and downs and changing the time parameters,” Gunsite Chief Operating Officer Ken Campbell said.

That’s not the only new offering for the nation’s oldest shooting academy, though. Suppressors are more popular than ever, and as a result the 223 Carbine Course is now available for those who’ve gone the extra mile and secured the tax stamp and the gear to protect their hearing and that of their fellow shooters.

A Night Vision Pistol/Carbine Course is also being offered in 2018. If you’re a member of your congregation’s security detail, a new Church Defense program will be of interest. Also on the schedule are a Shoot House Instructor Development Course, Instructor Development and foreign weapon instruction has returned, tailored for military personnel and civilians who want to understand and teach the application of firearms most used outside of the United States.

Naturally, Gunsite continues to offer its most popular levels of training in pistol, carbine and shotgun throughout the year, but the world continues to evolve, and so do the tactics employed by criminals and terrorists. One of its most recent additions, Active Shooter/Terrorist Response for Civilians is growing in popularity, as is the Tactical Medicine Course—which has changed from a military focus to an active-shooter model.
