Gear Up: IWI US Tavor SAR Accessories

The original Tavor is likely the best-selling bullpup of all time, and as a result, a robust aftermarket exists for parts to improve upon the base design.

A. Designed to reduce the Tavor’s length-of-pull by 1 inch, the Manticore Arms Tavor Curved Buttpad allows consumers to easily roll and lock the gun into the shoulder pocket. The special curved shape reduces the length-of-pull while keeping the Tavor’s overall length the same as with the OEM buttpad to ensure compliance with NFA-mandated regulations. Its 6061 T6 aluminum body is covered by a chemically resistant polymer that provides just a bit of “give” for a degree of recoil absorption. Ribbing on the back and the texture of the polymer guarantee the gun will not slip on the shoulder once mounted. MSRP: $72.95; manticorearms.com

B. Precision CNC machined from 6061 T6 Aluminum and Type 3 hardcoat anodized for a long lasting and durable finish, Geissele Automatics’ Super Sabra Trigger Pack replaces the rifle’s sear assembly (not the trigger bow itself) with the convenience of an easy-to-install, drop-in unit that features an adjustable first stage, giving the shooter the ability to fine-tune the first- and second-stage weight distribution—without compromising the total pull weight. Once installed, the Super Sabra reduces the Tavor’s 11-pound OEM pull weight to a smooth, manageable 5 pounds, 8 ounces. MSRP: $350; geissele.com

C. The rail length of Gear Head Works’ Tavor SAR Shot Razorback stops over the rifle’s gas block, eliminating any burdensome mass beyond the grip. Rail height simulates that of an AR-15, which allows the use of commonly found mounts without the need for risers or compromising with an uncomfortable cheek weld. The Razorback is compatible with AR-15 receiver-mounted rear backup sights. MSRP: $115.50; gearheadworks.com

D. Manufactured from a lightweight but durable, high-end reinforced-polymer composite, the FAB-Defense TARPOD provides a steady and durable bipod platform for the Tavor. Its compact and sleek design mounts below the pistol grip, placing the bipod in the center of the firearm, instead of near the muzzle, saving valuable rail space for mounting other accessories. Available colors include black, OD green or desert tan. MSRP: $92.50; fab-defenseus.com

E. Talon Grips’ Tavor Pistol Grip adds welcome purchase where it’s needed most. Its stick-on appliques are precision-die-cut for either the original Tavor SAR or the IWI US Tavor X95. Choices include a black- or moss-colored textured rubber, a black granulate (similar to abrasive skateboard tape) or Pro grip, which offers non-slip purchase of granulate combined with the comfort and snag-resistance of rubber. The grips are shipped with detailed application instructions. MSRP: $19.99 to $24.99; talongungrips.com
