Earlier this year we attended the inaugural 5.7 Fest at Range Ready in Robert, LA, the home of the Gun Talk crew. Designed to be a celebration of the “little round that could,” 5.7 Fest brought manufacturers of firearms chambered in 5.7 mm, 5.7 mm ammunition and accessories designed to work best with the diminutive centerfire round. Over the course of the event, we had the opportunity to assess the performance of all items, including today’s First Shot subject, new optics available from Meprolight.
Meprolight has been in business for nearly 40 years, getting its start I n 1990 producing red-dot sights for the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). Meprolight’s M21, with a fiber-optic pipe to operate as a dot-sight during daylight hours and tritium illumination for low- and no-light scenarios, is one of the best known optics. For 2024, Meprolight has expanded its offerings significantly, including pistol-slide-mounted miniature red-dot sights such as the MPO-PRO-DF enclosed-emitter sight and the MPO-S sight open-emitter sight for micro-9 mm double-stack pistols like the Springfield Armory Hellcat.
At 5.7 Fest, we had the opportunity to run a number of Meprolight sights through various drills and exercises. On the carbine range, we had the chance to check out the Tru-Vision red-dot sight for carbines in conjunction with the MMX3 magnifier, while on the handgun ranges we used the new MPO series of red-dot sights. I’ve also had the opportunity to run both the enclosed-emitter and open-emitter red-dot sights on handguns for our “I Carry” video series. In every instance, the Meprolight red-dot sights have worked without incident, with clear, sharp dots that hold zero over a variety of shooting scenarios.
We had a chance to chat with Jordan Stein from Meprolight, who runs us through the new optics available as well as some of the legacy items the company offers. For more information on any of the optics available from Meprolight, visit meprolight.com.
