Springfield Armory is releasing two new pistols in the 1911 DS Prodigy line, the 1911 DS Prodigy AOS Low Capacity and the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25 AOS Low Capacity for fiream enthusiasts who live areas with magazine-capacity restrictions. The 10-round Prodigy features a polymer grip module that mounts to the pistol’s forged steel frame. The grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment first found on the Hellcat family of 9mm pistols. Complementing this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver are coated with a black Cerakote finish, and inside the slide in both models is a match-grade, bushing-less forged stainless steel bull barrel.
“The Prodigy has proven itself as a pistol that takes everything shooters love about the classic 1911 design and updates it with a host of modern performance enhancements,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “With these new 10-round versions, the popular Prodigy pistol is now available to shooting enthusiasts in restrictive locales.”
Both the 5 inch and the 4.25 inch 10-round Prodigy pistols are ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. The Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. The AOS plates are machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel. The plates come fitted with a rear sight that is designed to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition. The pistol ships with a cover plate with rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store.
Both the 5 inch and 4.25 inch versions of the new 10-round Prodigy have an MSRP of $1,499 and come with two 10-round magazines. Visit springfield-armory.com for more information on these new pistols or other products from Springfield Armory.
