Smith & Wesson expanded its revolver lineup with an addition to the company's popular Bodyguard 38 revolver series. Previous models of the Bodyguard 38 were sold with an integrated Crimson Trace laser, the latest model out from S&W is sold without a laser, giving consumers a new option for an affordable, dependable personal-defense revolver.

“For 2018, we’ve introduced a new, non-laser version of the M&P Bodyguard 38 revolver," said Jan Mladek, general manager of Smith & Wesson and M&P brands. "With a new, gray polymer grip and updated styling, the M&P Bodyguard 38 provides a great value to our customers. This new model has a gray polymer grip and updated styling to provide our customers with a new revolver option for personal protection.”

The Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 38 revolver is chambered in .38 Spl. +P and features double-action-only, hammerless operation for a safe, consistent trigger pull. The revolver is built on an aluminum-alloy frame, ensuring that users have a lightweight personal-defense gun that can be carried easily anywhere. Attached to the frame is a stainless-steel barrel measuring 1.875 inches long. Inside the gun's frame, consumers will find a five-round cylinder machined from stainless steel and coated with a PVD finish.

At the rear of the sight rail, the revolver features an ambidextrous cylinder release that is intuitive for use in either hand. One of the other highlights on the handgun is the gray, polymer grip, which features texturing and an embossed S&W logo that helps to enhance control. The gun features a pinned front sight and an integral rear sight located in a the grooved top strap. The overall length of the Bodyguard 38 is 6.6 inches and the total weight of the gun when empty is 14.2 ounces.

The suggested retail price on the Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 38 revolver is $385.

New Pistol Suppressors for 2025

We hear you (pun intended)! This year, we are reporting manufacturer’s sound-reduction rating where available. Now, not every manufacturer makes that information publicly available, so you’ll see a fair number of “N/As” where no decibel-reduction numbers were provided, but rest assured that, despite what you might think, the noise-reduction rating is one of the least important factors when choosing a new suppressor (more on that in a future article).
