Shadow Systems is a small north Texas-based company that is known for its high-end, polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol offerings. Now it is releasing the new Foundation Series, a more affordably priced pistol product line that is built upon the same ergonomic frames that the company's other established models are already known for.
Three different 9mm pistols currently make up the Foundation Series. These include the MR 920, XR 920 and DR 920. Roughly speaking, the MR 920 is about the same size as a Glock G19 and is cross compatible with holsters meant for the 4th generation versions of the latter. The XR 920 is more akin to a Glock G45 and also has that same type of holster compatibility while the DR 920 takes after the Glock G17 and is compatible with 4th Gen Glock G17 holsters. All pistols ship with either two Magpul GL9 15- or 17-round magazines as well. According to Shadow Systems CEO, Trevor Roe, the primary difference between the Foundation Series guns and some of the company’s more expensive models is the fact that the slides and barrels on Foundation Series pistols have less machine time. The company also carefully substituted materials as needed to bring costs down but not alter performance. Another example is sights, as these slides ship with basic three-dot metal sights instead of sights with tritium lamps.
Shadow Systems prides itself on the fact that every aspect of its firearms manufacturing operation features American parts and American labor at every step of the process. The Foundation Series, like all other firearms sold by Shadow Systems feature their Limited Lifetime Warranty. Retail pricing for the pistols in this new product line begins at $679. These pistols are now available at Bass Pro, Cabela’s and Scheels and will be rolled out to other dealers during the month of September.
