First Look: MDT Polymer Magazines

MDT Sporting Goods Ltd. has just launched a pair of new polymer-body, AICS-pattern, detachable three-round magazines that work with either the .30-06 Springfield or the .300 Win. Mag. rounds and similarly-sized counterparts. These new detachable magazines, known as the MDT LA (Long Action) Polymer Magazine, hold three rifle cartridges as they are meant for sporting and hunting rifles. In addition to .30-06 Springfield or .300 Win Mag, these magazines are also compatible with other cartridges of similar length such as the .270 Win, .35 Whelen, .25-06, .280 Remington, 7mm Rem Mag, .264 Win Mag and others.

These MDT Long Action magazines are designed to be fully compatible with any CIP Long Action (3.850 inch) chassis, bottom metal or rifle stock system. The polymer design on the magazine’s body reduces snags and doesn’t catch on other gear, while also being slightly quieter during insertions. These new magazines take after the AICS pattern that was originally put forward by British rifle company Accuracy International. In the world of modern bolt-action rifles that accept detachable magazines, this Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) has become one of the most popular, industry wide. This isn’t unlike how the AR-15 magazine is popular for rifles besides the original AR-15, for example. The term “long action” refers to bolt action rifle receivers that are manufactured to accept rifle cartridges over 2.8 inches long. Long action calibers generally include many of the original full size centerfire from the late 19th century and the early 20th century, in addition to the majority of full-size, modern magnum centerfire rifle cartridges.

Both new types of three-round MDT Long Action Polymer Magazines retail for $50. To learn more about these new magazines or any other shooting accessories offered by MDT, please visit the company's website at mdttac.com.
