Building on the success of the company's original Light Sniper System rifle chassis, MDT announced the release of a second-generation model of the chassis in 2019. This updated version of one of the company's best-selling products ensures that precision shooters have a lightweight, strong, versatile platform for their go-to rifle actions well into the future.

"As we expand our product lines, we need to ensure our legacy products stay current to take advantage of our latest modular accessories and components," MDT Engineering Manager Brad Neels said. "The LSS is one of the most-popular chassis we produce. This update will ensure it remains so."

The original MDT LSS chassis system was one of the first designs ever produced by the company, and it was developed for the purpose of allowing owners of short-barrel, bolt-action rifles to have a compatible chassis. This ensures that the gun remained lightweight and compact while producing accurate and consistent performance.

A few features retained from the older model include the V-shaped bedding surfaces, enabling users to drop their rifle action into the chassis without having to do additional work. The chassis accepts all AICS-pattern magazines and can accept AR-style pistol grips and stocks. In terms of shape and styling, the Gen 2 model of the LSS chassis looks similar to the company's original model, maintaining continuity in terms of aesthetics.

New features found in the Gen 2 model include an ambidextrous magazine release, as well as M-Lok attachment slots located on both sides and the bottom surface of the fore-end. The chassis also features barricade-stop grooves located just forward of the magazine well, and the sides of the magazine well are machined with relief cuts to save even more weight. On its own, the MDT LSS Gen 2 chassis weighs in at just 1.4 pounds.

Consumers can select between black and FDE models of the LSS chassis, and the suggested retail price starts at $399.99.
