For 2024, Leupold Optics is adding a flat dark earth (FDE) finish option for their Mark 5HD product line, the company’s top-level line of tactical and precision riflescopes.

The Mark 5HD scopes, named after the 5x zoom ratio, are Leupold's crown jewels and an excellent choice for a long-distance, precision-rifle optic. Each member of the Mark 5HD family uses first-focal-plane reticles built around a 35mm main tube that allows the adjustment mechanisms inside the tube even more space to move up or down. This translates into an even greater adjustment range via these scopes' exposed turrets. Leupold Mark 5HD scopes can be purchased with either MOA or MRAD as adjustment units and a wide variety of reticles are available, including Leupold’s classic Tactical Milling Reticle (TMR), the PR1, PR2 and the Horus Optics Tremor 3.

While the current Mark 5HD lineup has four different base model riflescope choices, the new FDE offerings only cover three of these which consist of the 3.6-18x44, the 5-25x56 and the 7-35x56. Previously, these Leupold riflescopes were only available with a black anodized finish. Furthermore, several of the new Mark 5HD FDE models will feature Leupold’s wildly successful PR2-MIL reticle. The PR2-MIL reticle was developed with input from the country’s top competitors and professional shooters. PR2 reticles are specifically designed for long range speed and precision.

“The Mark 5HD has delivered incredible performance since the day it was launched–in the field, on the firing line, and beyond,” said John Snodgrass, Tactical Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “One thing we heard the call for was an FDE finish. At Leupold, we listen, and we deliver. We’re happy to bring consumers FDE options this year.”
