Federal is expanding its line of 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition for 2020, with additions including the 6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II, Terminal Ascent and the MeatEater Series Trophy Copper rounds. Federal has also expanded its well-known Federal Premium Gold Medal rifle ammunition line with a new 6.5 PRC load.

The 6.5 Creedmoor has quickly expanded out of the competition world to become one of the most popular hunting cartridges on the market today. Hunters and sport shooters alike realize that the flat trajectory, high-ballistic coefficients and blistering velocities of the 6.5 Creedmoor round give it a deadly combination of long-range accuracy and lethal hunting firepower, while still using a short-action platform with relatively mild recoil.

“Fans of the 6.5 Creedmoor have several hard-hitting new options at their disposal, thanks to a flurry of new introductions, plus a new 6.5 PRC loading,” said Federal Centerfire Rifle Ammunition Product Director Mike Holm. “In 2020, we have raised the bar in performance and versatility with high-powered loads perfect for a variety of hunting or competition shooting with new Berger, MeatEater, Swift and Terminal Ascent options. We are especially excited for customers to experience these four newest additions to our long list of 6.5 cartridges.”

The fast-flat-shooting 6.5 PRC cartridge has already proven itself in Precision Rifle Series competition and has earned the respect of elite long-range shooters. The new 6.5 PRC Gold Medal Berger round from Federal is loaded with the extremely accurate 140-grain Berger Hybrid bullet. Paired with Gold Medal match primers, Federal brass and specially formulated propellant, the cartridge is capable of velocities of 2,925 fps.

The bonded construction of the 130-grain Terminal Ascent bullet penetrates deep on close targets, while the patented Slipstream polymer tip initiates expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs. The bullet’s long, sleek profile offers an extremely high-ballistic coefficient, and its AccuChannel groove technology improves accuracy and minimizes drag. It's now available in a full selection of long-range hunting cartridges. The round is capable of velocities of 3,000 fps in 6.5 PRC and 2,800 fps in 6.5 Creedmoor.

The 6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II 130-grain bullet’s streamlined design and high-ballistic coefficient produce flat trajectories, while retaining more of its 2,800 fps velocity and energy downrange. Aided by its proprietary polymer tip, the Scirocco II expands at minimal velocities yet offers high weight retention at close range thanks to its bonded copper jacket.

The 120-grain polymer-tipped Trophy Copper bullet in 6.5 Creedmoor is capable of 2,875 fps and retains 99 percent of its weight for the deepest penetration possible in an expanding bullet. Plus, the tipped bullet cavity is optimized for reliable expansion across a broad spectrum of velocities. As a bonus, its grooved shank boosts accuracy in a wide range of firearms, while the nickel-plated case prevents corrosion and aids in faster, easier extraction. It also features a boat-tail design to increase ballistic coefficient for higher downrange velocities, more energy on impact and less bullet drop. This is the official ammunition of MeatEater, with new packaging that highlights this partnership.
