Editor’s Picks, SHOT Show 2024 Day One

A blue python, a classic blade and a new trigger are just some of things that caught our eye.

Blued Colt Python

It’s that time of year again, SHOT Show, where the latest and newest in guns, gear and other accessories is on display in Las Vegas, NV. As we have done in previous SHOT Show reviews, we’ve scoured the floor of the convention center looking for things that caught our attention. Here are five standouts from Day One:

Colt Python 6-inch barrel, blued. Story time, kids. Many years ago, a friend of mine offered me his 1970s vintage Python at an insanely low price (for a Python) due to some financial trouble. While I wanted that beautiful, deep-blued revolver more than anything, even the ridiculously low “friend price” was too rich for my blood (I wound up buying a 1911 from him to help him out, but that’s another story). This was about 20 years ago, and I haven’t stopped kicking myself for passing on that Colt. And, now, Colt has a new one to tempt me. It has all the new Python upgrades that improve on the original, but now it comes with a gorgeous blued finish. MSRP: $1,599.

Rise 700 triggers

Rise Armament Reliant Pro drop-in trigger for the Remington 700. I’ve long been impressed with the AR-15 drop-in triggers from Rise Armament, and have built a number of rifles that use various Rise triggers. New for 2024 is a drop-in unit for the Remington 700 and its many clones, with a pull weight adjustable from slightly less than 1 pound to 3 pounds and available with a straight or traditional curved trigger. MSRP: $259.

C&H LPVO

C&H Precision Weapons LPVO. Long known for its innovative optic-mount plates, C&H Precision Weapons started offering its own red-dot sights in 2023. New for 2024 is the company’s first magnified optic, and C&H has chosen an interesting magnification range: 2 – 12X. The scope employs a glass-etched, first-focal-plane reticle with an illuminated center aiming point and 11 brightness levels along with a 30 mm main tube, allowing for a wide variety of mounting options. The LPVO is expected to be ready later in 2024, and pricing has not yet been established.

Amag

Magpul Amag 17. Had Smith & Wesson not released a lever-action rifle, I’d have called this the surprise of the show. Magpul, known for decades for its near-invulnerable polymer magazines, has finally introduced a metal pistol magazine for the SIG Sauer P320/M17. The Amag 17 is compatible with ambidextrous magazine-catch releases, has witness marks on the spine, a high-visibility orange follower and Magpul’s traditional paint-pen dot system on the floorplate for marking magazines if desired. MSRP: $34.95.

Rambo!

Buck Knives Buckmaster 2.0 Combat Diver Pro. In the 1980s, Buck offered its original Buckmaster 184 Survival knive with two separate serrated edges on the back of the blade, removable anchor arms and storage in the handle. New for 2024 is the 2.0 version of the Buckmaster, with this knife geared toward divers. With a partially serrated, spear-point 420HC-steel blade, textured G10 handle and removable Emergency Anchor Wing, the Buckmaster 2.0 continues the tradition of overbuilt emergency tools ready to face the worst conditions. MSRP: $899.

So, there you have it, five items that caught our attention as we walked the SHOW Show floor on day one. Stay tuned for more editor’s picks as SHOW Show 2024 continues.
