The 230-grain FMJ .45 ACP load at 810 fps was the original military load for the 1911 handgun. Some like this Federal American Eagle offering as a defensive, if not an all purpose, load for handguns chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. Roundnose versions do not create much of a wound cavity at all, but will penetrate reasonably straight. I gave up trying to stop one of these bullets after successive penetrations of 31 inches in 10 percent ordnance gelatin and placed a ballistic vest panel at the end of the last gelatin block.
