One of the biggest challenges with adding optics to competition pistols is sometimes where to put it, especially if the slide is not one solid piece on top. Taurus has figured this out with the new optic-ready TaurusTX 22 Competition.

Designed for high-speed shooting, the TaurusTX 22 in .22 LR has been a mainstay in the plinker rimfire lineup for a few years now, popular among those who wanted a way to shoot for fun, practice, and basic marksmanship without breaking the bank. However, the first model has one minor drawback: no way to attach a red dot.

But now, thanks to the new Competition model, shooters can enjoy the same red dot capabilities they have on their larger caliber pistols.

The new Competition features a skeletonized slide with a cutout running between the ejection port and the back of the front sight. The slide partially enclosed a 5-inch threaded bull barrel that includes machining to accept four different optic mounting patterns commonly found on most red dots, including:

“The engineers at Taurus definitely thought outside of the box on this firearm, from the beginning of the TaurusTX 22 to this competition model,” said Jessie Harrison, world-champion shooter and Captain of the Taurus Shooting Team.

“They put a lot of thought and research into the ergonomics of the grip and designed something that feels natural in the hand. The trigger system is unlike any other Taurus firearm—a single-action-only striker-fired trigger that feels smooth and breaks crisp. That’s important from a competitor's standpoint for speed and rapid fire. The threaded barrel that would be typically used for a suppressor doubles for a compensator if you so choose. All that’s needed is to add your optic of choice and you’re off to the races!”
