The Indiana State Police has adopted the SIG Sauer P365 as its back-up duty firearm for the agency’s full complement of troopers. The Indiana State Police is a statewide law enforcement agency comprised of more than 1,250 officers across 14 districts throughout the state of Indiana.

“The SIG Sauer P365 gives Indiana State Police Troopers primary carry capabilities in a sub-compact configuration,” said Assistant Chief of Staff Operations for the Indiana State Police Lt. Col. Matt Bilkey, “Its high level of accuracy, small size, and high round capacity make it a perfect firearm for our officers, both on and off duty, and is a great counterpart to our primary duty firearm the SIG Sauer P227.”

The SIG Sauer P365 is a high capacity micro-compact pistol tailored for everyday concealed carry pistol. It features a patented modified double-stack magazine for a 10+1 full-size capacity, with 12-round factory-made magazines available for 13-round capacity.

“It’s a tremendous honor for SIG Sauer to continue to support the Indiana State Police with the addition of the P365 pistol as their back-up duty firearm,” said Tom Jankiewicz, executive vice president of Law Enforcement Sales at SIG Sauer. “The micro-compact P365 pistol gives the Indiana State Troopers full-size capacity with little additional weight or bulk added to their patrol equipment, allowing them to easily maneuver as they carry out their duties to protect and serve the citizens of Indiana.”

In November last year the Sumter, SC, Police Department also selected the P365. “As for our detectives, the P365 is the perfect pistol because of the small size and high-capacity which makes it easy to conceal without sacrificing rounds,” Captain Michael Evans, Support Services for the agency, said at the time. “The P365 will also be placed into service as our agency issued backup firearm to replace the current Glock 43.”

Shooting Illustrated got behind the trigger of a P365 during the 2018 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show—only a few weeks after its introduction. “SIG has managed to blend the tiny size of a pocket pistol with the capacity of a mid-size firearm, and done so in a package that really does combine the best of both worlds,” Jay Grazio wrote after the range session.
