U.S. Army Contracting Command has entered into a five-year contract with SIG Sauer for commercial, off-the-shelf SP2022 pistols, MPX sub-guns, MCX rifles, 716 G2 rifles, Tango 6 series scopes, suppressors and a variety of other accessories. The firm, fixed-price agreement is for $13.4 million with a completion date of Dec. 1, 2023.

“This is a very exciting announcement for SIG Sauer and we are extremely proud that the U.S. Army has selected SIG Sauer products for this award,” said Ron Cohen, president and CEO of the company. “We are extremely humbled that they have recognized our ability to meet the broad scope and demands of this contract while recognizing the quality and versatility of our products for the battlefield.”

In July 2018, U.S. Army Contracting Command—New Jersey posted an initial notice that it intended to purchase the SIG Sauer firearms and accessories. Specific volume of firearms in the agreement could run as high as 100 MCXs, 5,000 SP2022s, 1,000 MPXs, 500 716 G2s and 100 SRD9 suppressors. Various uppers, threaded barrels and magazines are also included in the order

The MCX rifle was conceived for the demands of the special operations community and is available in more than 500 configurations, including the Virtus version, tested by Gary Paul Johnson for Shooting Illustrated. The MPX sub-gun has a short-stroke gas piston operating system, user changeable barrels—available in varying lengths—short aluminum KeyMod handguard, ambidextrous AR controls and 30-round magazine.

Tango 6 series riflescopes are ruggedized and optimized for military use to withstand CQB operations and long-range shooting. All are manufactured using anodized aircraft-grade aluminum maintubes and are available in multiple reticle and illumination options. In May 2018, the U.S. Army announced the purchase of 6,069 SIG Sauer Tango6 1-6x24 mms, which are going to be used on the branch’s new Squad Designated Marksman Rifle.
