Walther Arms announced the addition of a new model of its popular PPQ M2 pistol for 2017: the 5-inch Standard Slide model. This new handgun was developed specifically at the request of law-enforcement officers.
"Even though this is a relatively minor change, Walther is excited to take feedback from our customers and incorporate it into our products," said Luke Thorkildsen, VP of marketing and product development for Wather Arms. "The PPQ line continues to grow as the best striker-fired polymer pistol with the best grip and trigger on the market."
Previously, Walther offered the 5-inch barrel model with a ported slide, in an effort to lighten the platform and provide extra performance for competition shooters. However, law-enforcement and military customers began showing interest in the heightened performance provided by the 5-inch pistol. However, they viewed the ports in the slide as potential entry points for debris and other foreign objects and requested a solid slide to mitigate this issue.
All other parts of the gun remain unchanged by this update. The pistol is available in both 9 mm and .40 S&W and features a total magazine capacity of 15 rounds in 9 mm and 11 rounds in .40 S&W. The total weight on the gun, with an empty magazine, is 26 ounces in the 9 mm model and 26.5 ounces in the .40 S&W model.
The pistol measures in at an overall length of 8.1 inches and a height of 5.3 inches. The total width of the gun is 1.3 inches. The guns come equipped with a striker-fired trigger that measures in with a 5.6-pound pull. The total trigger travel is 0.4 inches. The guns are equipped with two drop safeties, as well as a firing-pin block safety.
The Walther PPQ M2 pistols are finished with a Tenifer coating that provides users with a matte finish and a corrosion-resistant finish. The suggested retail price on the new Walther PPQ M2 5-inch Standard Slide pistol is $749.
