The Safariland Group has recently launched another special edition of their workhorse Safariland 6000 Series outside-the-waistband duty holsters, this time with the classic desert camouflage pattern, the “Six Color Desert Camouflage Pattern” colloquially known as the “Chocolate Chip Camo,” as it has many small dark shapes “embedded” in a sea of caramel or tan colored tones that resemble chocolate chips on those quintessential American cookies. This camouflage pattern dates back to the early 1970s and was inspired by Southern California’s rocky desert environments. During the first Gulf War of the early 1990s, American military forces wore military uniforms based on this pattern and it has since become synonymous with that desert conflict. Much like the US M81 Woodland camouflage pattern, the “Desert chocolate chip” has experienced a retro-inspired resurgence and has become popular once again.

“Our goal at Safariland is to equip our customers with the best gear available," said Eric Gasvoda, general manager of duty gear for Safariland. "The limited edition Chocolate Chip camo holsters offer top-notch functionality and pay homage to the rich history of military camouflage. We are excited to bring this iconic pattern to our customers."

Safariland offers three holster models with this special edition retro “skin”: the 6354RDS, 6304RDS, and 6354RDSO. All these holsters are designed to accommodate handguns with dustcover-mounted tactical lights and slide-mounted electronic red-dot sights. In addition to this, these three duty grade holsters also feature Safariland’s signature internal retention mechanism, the Safariland ALS (Automatic Locking System) which locks the handgun in place into the holster and secures it against falls, bumps or an aggressive attempt to grab the gun away from the holster.
