The 12 gauge shotgun is indeed a formidable defensive arm. With up to nine rounds of 12 gauge ammunition, that's as many as 81 .30-caliber pellets (for 00 buckshot) at the ready in one magazine. Being able to effectively deliver this devastating payload and tame the recoil of a 12-gauge shotgun is best accomplished through repeated practice.
